Manifesto

Images are no longer scarce. They can be generated, copied, varied, polished, and circulated at speed. In such a time, the artistic question is no longer “Can we obtain an image?” but “Why should this image remain?”Coartisan Art begins with this question. We do not treat AI output as a natural result. AI produces candidate images. A candidate may be interesting, complete, beautiful, even technically mature, but it is still not an artwork. A work must pass through human judgment. Judgment is not the simple act of choosing the most attractive output. It asks: does this image have irreplaceable visual memory? Does it solve a real formal problem? Is it worth long viewing? Does it deserve preservation? We do not believe that explanation can save an image. If a work needs extensive text in order to appear powerful, its power is unstable. Text may provide context, but it cannot replace viewing. Evidence may build trust, but it cannot manufacture artistic value. A social question may act as the engine, but it cannot overpower the painting itself.Nor do we believe that completeness equals value. A work may have a title, prompt, evidence, process, audit, and certificate, and still remain mediocre. The core of CPA 6.X is not to make every work pass, but to give the system the ability to say no. “Compliant but not worth releasing” is one of the most important judgments in Coartisan Art.Coartisan Art is therefore a self-critical painting system. It allows AI, hand, material, evidence, selection, failure, and release to participate in the formation of a work. It recognizes that art is not the production of more images, but the establishment of stricter reasons for keeping fewer images. Our question is not whether AI can make images. Our question is whether human beings can still judge whether an image deserves to exist.
